Aaron Miranda, 39, of Newington, is facing six charges, including third-offense operating under the influence, reckless driving, and driving the wrong way on a divided highway, Connecticut State Police said.
Troopers received 11 separate 911 calls just before 1 a.m. reporting a black Nissan Maxima traveling in the wrong direction on Route 5/15 and I-91 northbound. The last caller said they saw the vehicle near Exit 27 on I-91, according to police.
A trooper soon located the Maxima on Great Meadow Road in Wethersfield, where Miranda was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes, police said. He slowly drifted back into the correct lane as police pulled him over.
Miranda had red, glossy eyes, smelled of alcohol, and admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel, State Policer said. He failed field sobriety tests, and a breathalyzer test revealed his blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, authorities said.
Miranda was arrested without incident and is being held on a $10,000 bond, police said.
